Exactly what is all of the excitement over this date in 2012? December 21, 2012 is the date that the Mayan Long Count calendar ends. The ancient Mayas developed the more complicated and intense calendar system the world has ever known. Their Long Count time recordings are based on a count of 26,500 years for a complete length of an age, a full cycle in the times of Earth. This long cycle is divided into 5 equal cycles of 5,125 years. Right now we are almost at the end of the 5th cycle in the Long Count calendar. The age we currently are living in comes to a close at the end of the known long cycle as recorded by the Mayans.

But there is more to the entire 2012 phenomenon than the Mayan calendar. You may have recently heard that to the “ancient Mayans” reaching the end of a cycle was cause for a major celebration, not the end of the world. Yet, there is still cause for concern over the arrival of Winter Solstice 2012. In truth, the Maya people do not predict the end of the world arriving in 2012. They do however predict that it will be the time that humanity will transcend into a spiritual evolvement, a time of peace and beauty.

To those populations who occupy Western civilizations, December 21, 2012 is also the dawning of the Age of Aquarius. To the ancient Maya, the Western zodiac has absolutely no meaning. By the same token, the Maya sacred ceremony of the crystal skulls has no meaning to those from the West or the North. The confusion over what is going on can be traced back to when the current age of man was very young, namely to the Tower of Babel. Each ancient culture has its own interpretation on the end of the world which is really the same as the end of this age.

In the Bible, it states “at the end of this current evil age of man”, which is directly connected to the prophecies and predictions know as the “end of time” and the “end of the world”. According to the knowledge that has been compiled, the events said to be coming in 2012 will be more of a compilation of all of the world’s ancient cultures rushing together to the same goal. This is not as far fetched as you may assume without giving the subject a great deal of study and thought.

A completely new beginning, an overhaul of current humanity and it’s values, beliefs and operations that would allow the entrance of a completely new age is not going to be like nothing every happened. For such an event to occur would be possible only if everything that exists now, our way of life and endeavors must abruptly end. Saying the December 21, 2012 is the end of the world and saying that it is the dawn of a new age both will come with suffering, strife and difficulty. New life only is possible through labor or birthing pains.

The more you know about what is purported, predicted or prophesied to be happening on December 21, 2012 or even leading up to this date, the easier the entire change will be on you. You cannot go into uncharted territory without a map, some form of preparation. Imagine venturing into the jungle packed and armed for a trip in the Antarctic. How long would you last with all the wrong supplies and clothing for such a trek? Being prepared means planning ahead, possessing an awareness of what could happen.
Learning what could happen does not mean that it will. No one plans for their house to burn to the ground or their car to be totaled while driving home from work. That’s why we pay for insurance, so we’re prepared for the unexpected. No one wishes that world will end either. But how will you fare through 2010, 2011 or even 2012 if you don’t know everything it might entail or what could really happen at 11:11 am on December 21, 2012?

It isn’t unlike Hollywood to create some hubbub over the launch of a new movie. They are into drama and entertainment; we humans are a very curious lot always ready for the latest and greatest in shock factors, crazy stunts and lavish advertising schemes. Throughout the hundreds of thousands of movies that have been produced over the past century or so, not one of them has a prelude to its release date as bizarre as the 2012 Movie.

Roland Emmerich is infamous for his fascination with sweeping epic disaster flicks and all the special effects he can cram into the script. While Emmerich is the 18th largest grossing film directors of all time, it is rather bizarre that such huge sums of money has been thrown into the advertising campaign for his 2012 movie. It isn’t the many months of extensive marketing being used to create significant hype leading up to the film’s release. His 1998 release of Godzilla was given a highly intense advertising prelaunch treatment too. The curious and rather bizarre part is the depths to which Sony Pictures has gone in creating a stir over the 2012 movie.

Studying and translating the cryptic four line prophecies and predictions of Nostradamus is something that some people have devoted decades of their lives too for the past 600 years. The listening world is just as fascinated with learning what he has foretold now, whenever his name is mentioned millions come to rapt attention.

Born in 1503, Michel de Notredame, or Nostradamus is said to be the greatest prophet the world has ever known. As a Jewish family living 16th century France, Renee and Jacques de Notredame were forced to convert to Christianity by the compulsory edit of King Louis XII. Michel matured into an accomplished physician, naturalist and astrologist who was aware of his ability to foretell the future at the age of 42. He had visions and also used water and mirrors to assist in his forecasting of many events that reach far into the still distant year of 3797.

Nostradamus’ first published predictions began with the yearly Almanacs in 1550, later under the name of Prognostications. The books known as the Centuries were actually written due to a dear friend of Michel’s urging, one Jean-Ayme de Chavigny. In March 1555, the first edition of The True Centuries was published and the complete set is of four Centuries containing mysterious and somewhat vague quatrains of future predictions.

The prophecies in these four books written by Nostradamus have been found to foretell events and people from his time until today. The 4 line prophecies were purposefully written in murky wording as explained by Michel himself in the preface of The True Centuries, his first full book of astrological prophecy. Due to this fact, it is difficult for anyone to interpret his quatrains. Most academics will tell you that the popular associations to real world events are for the most part misinterpreted or mistranslated, both mistakenly and deliberately.

The word Mayan refers to the indigenous people of Mesoamerica, the ancient Maya. Because some disaster or event caused the Maya to desert their cities and cultural centers, there have been many academic references to the entire culture disappearing. This is not true, there are modern Maya people living in southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and Honduras today. Their story is one of the most known and studied classical Mesoamerican civilization that begins around the year 2600 BC in the Yuacatan.

The history of the Maya people is rich with advanced use of mathematics, astronomy and astrology. Their religion is based on the laws of nature and sacred gods and goddesses from the sky. Their cultural centers leave us some amazing architecture, pottery and arts in the form of stone carving, painting and plaster reliefs to study and understand their complex society and lifestyle. Some believe that the original Maya arrived in the Yucatan by crossing the Bearing Strait some 20,000 years ago. The Mayan civilization became a powerful empire around 250 AD. Mayan legends tell that their ancestors the Olmecs were survivors of the Atlantis and Lemuria destruction who were transported by air to the safety of the Gulf Coast of southern Veracruz and Tabasco. Zecharia SitchinA lot of you who were visitors to my old site know that the site mainly revolved around Zecharia’s Sitchin’s theory. For those people who don’t know, Sitchin is among very few people today who’s able to read some of the oldest written languages from our earliest civilizations. He has devoted his life to not only the study of ancient languages, but also their art, their culture, their beliefs, and the knowledge that they had. In 1976 he wrote a book called The 12th Planet, the first in a series of books he called The Earth Chronicles. His basic conclusions were that our planet has been visited by a race of beings in the past, which the Ancient Sumerians called Anunnaki (translated: Those Who From Heaven to Earth Came) and that these beings came from a planet the Sumerians called Nibiru (translated: Planet of the Crossing); a planet which, according to Sitchin, has a very long elliptical orbit and comes into our Solar System every 3600 years.
